Most importantly, I found out that the environment we had set up for our iguana was all wrong.

I went to the pet store and asked what I thought to be the appropriate questions: How much will it cost?

I learned that before buying any pet, a person needs to make sure they can take them to the vet for care and be willing to learn about the complexities of diet, environment, and behavior of the animal he or she is interested in.

The government doesn't regulate pet food—the maker can say whatever they choose on the packaging labels.

Instead, I'll deal with a demanding, rough-scaled lizard that doesn't always seem to appreciate the time and money I lavish upon her.

At first I was reluctant to spend money on a veterinary bill for a lizard.

She needed to be upstairs where it was warmer; the heat rock was the worst possible thing to put in her cage—it could cause her serious injury; and the aquarium was entirely too small.
